How to use the Makersite tool for Autodesk® Fusion 360™ & it's functionality

Login Page

(Note: Login credentials are the same as used for logging into Autodesk® Fusion 360™)

Sign in Button

Provides authentication to the user:

  • On successful login: The user will be directed to the Landing Page.

  • On error in authenticating: The user will be directed to the Error Page. Please check the login details & try again, or contact support via the Support Email.

Landing Page

Send new BOM Button

This will send the model data from Autodesk® Fusion 360™, to the Makersite server, to calculate the sustainability impact & should cost of the model:

  • On success: The user will be directed to the Response Page where the results will be shown, if all components of the model have been assigned a mass.

  • Warning Message dialog box: If the model contains any components with 0 mass then a warning message dialog box will be shown.

  1. If Yes is selected in the warning dialog, then the user will be taken to the Response Page.

  2. If No is selected in the warning dialog, then the user will be taken back to the Landing Page.

  • Error message dialog box: If the model does not contain any components with an assigned mass.

  1. Select OK in the error dialog, this will return the user to the Landing Page.

  • If there are any other errors: The Error Page will be shown.

  1. Select Try again to reload the model.

  2. Select Learn More if reloading the model has no effect.

  3. Contact support if error persists. Support Email

Response Page

Model Name

Shows the name of the model data that is loaded to the left of the toolbar.

Export button

Will convert the response into a .csv file and export to the user selected folder.


Update from Source Button

If changes are made to the Autodesk® Fusion 360™ model, the user should select Update from source to resend the model data to the Makersite server, this will recalculate the sustainability & should cost results. The new data will then be shown in the List View, & the history of previous models will be retained. To view the calculation history, see the History View section below.


Menu Button

The 3 dots to the right of the toolbar contain the About & Help page for user support, troubleshooting & email support. Support Email

The Logout button can also be found in the menu, this will redirect the user to the Autodesk® Fusion 360™ login page, after logging the current user out.

Cards

Environment Calculation Tab:

3 Cards are shown to the left of the Makersite tool for Autodesk® Fusion 360™ window.


  • Total Carbon emissions of the model in gCo2 eq or kgCo2 eq.

  • Total Saving in gCo2 eq or kgCo2 eq by using the alternative material selected in the Replacement column. This will update when the user changes the material selection in the dropdown menu.

  • Total Should Cost.

Costing Calculation Tab:

  • Total Should Cost

  • Total Material Cost

  • Total Manufacturing Cost

  • Assembly: Provides the names of the components in the BOM hierarchy.

  • Material: This is the material set in the Autodesk® Fusion 360™ model.

  • Mass: This is the weight of the component in kilograms (kg).

  • CO2: This is the amount of CO2 equivalent (kgCO2 eq) per component, calculated via the EF3.0 method (EU Environmental Footprint calculation).

  • Replacement: Makersite alternative material recommendations, to potentially reduce the environmental impact of the component based on material selection. The dropdown menu shows a list of alternatives that can be selected. Selecting an alternative from the list will update the CO2 Savings % figure to reflect the change. The total kgCO2 eq figure shown to the left of the List View will also be updated in line with any alternative material selections.

  • CO2 Savings: Percentage of kgCO2 eq saved by using Makersite's alternative material recommendation.

  • Assembly: Provides the names of the components in hierarchy.

  • Should Cost: Estimated cost for manufactured component (Sum of material and manufacturing costs).

  • Material Cost: Estimated cost for material.

  • Manufacturing Cost: Estimated cost for manufacturing.

  • In the Heat Map View, the model will be displayed with colour contours that represent a scale that transitions from green to red, green being the lowest value, & red being the highest value. This tool gives a quick visual indication of which components in your product have the highest impacts for both environment & cost.

History View

Selecting the 'See History' button on the response page the user will be directed to the History View, where the stored versions of the analysis can be selected & reviewed.

  • The History View will show up to 3 versions including the current version.
